96000 POUNDS OF BEEF RECALLED

No thanks to the FDA, a company has voluntarily recalled nearly 96000 pounds of ground beef products after two people were sickened, possibly by the bacterium E. Coli, the U.S. Department of Agriculture ‘Food Safety and Inspection Service said Saturday.
Beef products by American Foods Group include coarse and fine ground beef chuck, sirloin chop and beef. They were distributed to retailers and distributors in Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia and Wisconsin.
The problem surfaced after an investigation by the Department of Health in Illinois, which was looking into two reports of disease.
The bacterium is E. coli O157: H7. E. Coli is carried in the intestines of cattle. Improper cutting and treatment can lead to E. Coli to get onto the meat. Cooking, to at least 160 degrees internal temperature can kill bacteria.
E.coli O157: H7 is a potentially deadly bacteria that can cause bloody diarrhea and dehydration. The very young, the elderly and people with immune systems are more susceptible to the bacterium E. Coli.
The products subject to recall were produced on October 10. They were distributed for further processing and repackaging and will not society ‘establishment number on the packaging.
Some of the recommendations for use of the dates have already expired. In this case, consumers can communicate with their retailers to see if the goods in question were in the shops. Consumers are also invited to look into their freezers and return or discard the product, if they deem it.
Seems that the FDA bullies the smaller guys when these large companies are constantly getting away with poisioning the entire nation.
